Steps for E-Commerce Website Setup:

In order to set up an ecommerce store on the Internet you need 4 things:

  1. Shopping Cart - This is software that handles the listing and management of your products and customers. We have software that we use and will integrate the look and feel of your website, either existing or if we design it ourselves.
  2. SSL Certificate - This is the software that encrypts each transaction and keeps hackers from stealing your customer's credit card information. In the past, SSL certificates would cost upwards of $5,000 per year, but with recent advances and competition, we can purchase these for under $100. SSL certificates must be renewed yearly to remain valid.
  3. Payment Gateway - This is the company that will handle your credit card transactions. They also check for fraudulent charges to credit cards. The company that we recommend and use almost exclusively is Authorize.net. You will pay this company a monthly rate to handle your transactions.
  4. Merchant Account - This is the company that the payment gateway sends the money to. You can usually have the money from this account automatically sent to your actual bank account nightly.
